How and why The Borderlands Foundation collects, uses, and protects your information when you use ukrainecenterfortraumaticstress.org and our related programs.
Last updated July 2, 2026. This privacy notice for The Borderlands Foundation (“Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) describes how and why we might collect, store, use, and/or share (“process”) your information when you use our services (“Services”), such as when you visit our website at ukrainecenterfortraumaticstress.org, or any website of ours that links to this privacy notice, or engage with us in other related ways — including any sales, marketing, or events.
Questions or concerns? Reading this privacy notice will help you understand your privacy rights and choices. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our Services. If you still have questions, contact us at [email protected].
Personal information you disclose to us. We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when you express interest in us or our Services, participate in activities on the Services, or otherwise contact us. This may include your name, phone number, email address, billing address, mailing address, and debit/credit card number. We do not process sensitive information. All personal information you provide must be true, complete, and accurate, and you must notify us of any changes.
Payment data. We may collect data necessary to process your payment if you make a donation or purchase, such as your payment instrument number and its security code. All payment data is stored by Stripe — see their privacy notice at stripe.com/privacy.
Information automatically collected. Some information — such as your IP address and/or browser and device characteristics — is collected automatically when you visit our Services. This does not reveal your specific identity but may include device and usage information (IP address, browser and device type, operating system, language preferences, referring URLs, country, location, and how and when you use our Services). We collect this to maintain the security and operation of our Services and for internal analytics and reporting, including through cookies and similar technologies (log and usage data, device data, and approximate location data).
In short: to provide, improve, and administer our Services, communicate with you, for security and fraud prevention, and to comply with law — and, where relevant, with your consent. Specifically, we may process your information to respond to your inquiries and offer support; to send you administrative information; to fulfill and manage your donations, orders, payments, and any returns or exchanges; to enable user-to-user communications where offered; and to save or protect an individual's vital interests, such as to prevent harm.
In short: we only process your personal information when we have a valid legal reason to do so. If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR and UK GDPR require us to rely on valid legal bases — which may include your consent (which you can withdraw at any time), performance of a contract, compliance with legal obligations, or the protection of vital interests. If you are in Canada, we may process your information with your express or implied consent, which you can withdraw at any time; in limited exceptional cases the law may permit processing without consent (for example, for fraud detection and prevention, or where disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, or court order).
In short: we may share information in specific situations, including: business transfers (in connection with any merger, sale of assets, financing, or acquisition of all or part of our organization); affiliates (whom we require to honor this privacy notice); and business partners (to offer you certain products, services, or promotions).
In short: we may use cookies and similar tracking technologies (such as web beacons and pixels) to access or store information. You can usually set your browser to remove or reject cookies; if you do, certain features of the Services may be affected.
In short: we keep your information only for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law (such as tax, accounting, or other legal requirements). When we no longer need your information, we will delete or anonymize it, or securely store and isolate it until deletion is possible.
In short: we aim to protect your personal information through appropriate and reasonable organizational and technical security measures. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Transmission of personal information to and from our Services is at your own risk, and you should only access the Services within a secure environment.
In short: we do not knowingly collect data from or market to children under 18. By using the Services, you represent that you are at least 18, or that you are the parent or guardian of a minor and consent to their use of the Services. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a user under 18, we will deactivate the account and take reasonable measures to promptly delete the data. If you become aware of any such data, please contact us at [email protected].
In short: in some regions — such as the EEA, UK, and Canada — you have rights that give you greater access to and control over your personal information. These may include the right to request access to and a copy of your information, to request correction or erasure, to restrict processing, and, where applicable, to data portability, as well as the right to object to processing. To make a request, contact us using the details below. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we are unlawfully processing your information, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If we are relying on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time. You can also opt out of marketing communications at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails or by contacting us.
Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature. As no uniform technology standard for recognizing DNT signals has been finalized, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals. If a standard is adopted that we must follow, we will inform you in a revised version of this notice.
In short: yes. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 (the “Shine The Light” law) permits California residents to request, once a year and free of charge, information about the categories of personal information we disclosed to third parties for direct marketing (if any). California residents also have rights under the CCPA to know, access, and request deletion of their personal information, to non-discrimination for exercising these rights, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information (which we do not process). In the past twelve months we have collected the categories: identifiers; California Customer Records information; internet or network activity; geolocation data; and inferences. The Borderlands Foundation has not sold or shared personal information to third parties in the preceding twelve months, and will not sell or share it in the future. To exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected].
In short: yes. Under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (CDPA), you have the right to be informed whether we are processing your personal data, to access and correct it, to request its deletion, to obtain a copy of it, and to opt out of processing for targeted advertising, the sale of personal data, or certain profiling. The Borderlands Foundation has not sold any personal data and will not sell personal data in the future. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 45 days (extendable once by 45 days where reasonably necessary). If we decline to act, you may appeal; if your appeal is denied, you may contact the Attorney General.
In short: yes. We may update this privacy notice from time to time to stay compliant with relevant laws. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Last updated” date and will be effective as soon as it is accessible. If we make material changes, we may notify you by prominently posting a notice or by directly sending you a notification.
